Victoria’s Journey
Victoria has been part of Brunswick supported Living for a little over five years. She joined after working for a couple of other social care establishments. "I started working in care at 23. I didn't want to go to University and wanted to help others, so care seemed like a good place to start," she says.
Her first job was working in social care with a local home, near to where she lived. "The people were very nice there," says Victoria. "But I didn't feel challenged and it was a family run business. So after a short period I realised there was never going to be any role for me to progress into."
We recognise that our services are only as good as the people we employ, which is why we invest in our staff to inspire them and help their professional development.
She then went to work for her current manager Andrew in a supported living environment working with men who had a forensic background" The work was both more rewarding and more challenging. There was a formal training program, and the management were encouraging you to do anything to achieve other qualifications."
Having gained an NVQ in social care, Victoria was keen to develop her career further. "When the role at Brunswick came up I knew it was for me. After my interview and meeting some of the management team I realised that this was a combination of challenging work, management that really cared, and an opportunity to specialise and take my career in the direction I want with their full support."
In my time at Brunswick I have developed beyond that which I thought was possible and recently have had the baking of the management team to go to University and start my Mental Health Nurse training.
